On this week’s episode of This Is Ellijay, Eli visits Frankfurt Döner & Meats in Ball Ground, Georgia, where he tasted an incredible selection of meats and learned about Detlev and Elke Werner, the creators of this beautiful family business.
Detlev, a German-trained master butcher, spent much of his career working in the North Metro Atlanta area before finally settling in Ball Ground and opening Frankfurt Döner & Meats in 2010. They found inspiration for their business at Kubys, a German Delicatessen in the Dallas-Forth Worth area of Texas, where they worked when they first migrated to the United States.

Frankfurt Döner & Meats has built a fantastic reputation by crafting innovative gourmet sausages that are cased and smoked entirely in-house. In addition to their signature sides, their exceptional sandwiches earned them the title of the number one sandwich shop in Cherokee County. Customers can also purchase individual cuts of high-quality meat—including steaks, pork chops, and fresh ground round burgers—or enjoy seasonal specials like schnitzel and rouladen.
For those feeling adventurous, the shop features a unique array of sausage flavors like strawberry jalapeño, pineapple bacon, and their special 4×4 recipe (four peppers and four cheeses) developed for Jeep Fest. Their popular menu also boasts traditional German brats, smoked pork chops, 50/50 beef and pork hot dogs, 100% Boston butt, landjaeger (meat sticks), liverwurst pâté, and an impressive selection of over 100 different flavors of bratwurst.
